How can we make the Golden Belt healthier? That is the question the Golden Belt Community Foundation is asking health agencies, community leaders, and interested individuals throughout the Golden Belt. The Kansas Health Foundation recently launched “change something.SM”, a motivational campaign to improve the health of all Kansans. Their message is clear: You don’t have to change everything to live healthier, just change something. In conjunction with this statewide effort to show how making small changes can have a big impact on one’s health, the Foundation has chosen the Golden Belt Community Foundation as one of only four community foundations in the state to participate in a special grant project. The GBCF is the recipient of a three-year, $300,000 grant meant to focus on improving the health of residents in the Golden Belt, with specific emphasis on physical activity and nutrition. Through this program, the four counties served by the GBCF will work together to develop a community strategic plan. This plan will serve as the umbrella under which all grant funds will be awarded. The intended result will be sustainable programs that promote a healthier Golden Belt. |
